Benefits of Pre-Stressed spun concrete Pole

 

  • The initial cost of pre-stressed spun concrete poles are 50% less than of conventional steel poles.
  • The pre-stressed spun concrete poles has a much longer service life (35+ Years) as compared to R.C.C. of steel poles. Pre-stressed concrete poles installed by WAPDA about 35 years back in Sukkur and Khairpur areas are still in a very good condition and there is no sign of any deterioration.
  • The pre-stressed spun poles are vandalism proof and not liable to be stolen or damaged as it cannot be easily cut into pieces and do not have any salvage value.
  • The weight of pre-stressed spun pole is about 50% of R.C.C. poles of equivalent length and strength. However these are heavier  then steel poles. It is much easier and cheaper to handle transport of pre-stressed spun concrete poles as compared to R.C.C. poles.
  • Pre-stressed spun concrete poles do not need any maintenace (painting) through out its life.
  • Pre-stressed spun concrete poles do not require any concrete foundation and can be directly embedded in normal soil resulting in much cheaper erection cost compared to steel poles.
  • Resistance due to wind is less due to its circular section section as compared to equivalent H or rectangular section P.C.C. or R.C.C. poles.
  • High density concrete is nonconducting material except when it is wet hence it is safer to use in most circumstances. The natural hollow raceway inside the pole provides a smooth conduit for electrical cables.
